One of the major regulators of Jessore's economy is the Benapole land port located in the border village of Benapole in Sharsha upazila. After being closed for two days in a row, the import-export activities between India and Bangladesh through Benapole land port of Jessore started from Monday morning. The decision was taken after a two-day meeting at the BSF meeting room at Benapole Custom House and Petrapole on Sunday.

 Various port users' organizations stopped import-export activities on Saturday morning in protest of the revocation of licenses of two C&F agents and the withdrawal of harassment lawsuits against their employees.

After two days of suspension of import-export activities, a meeting was held at Benapole Customs House this afternoon in the presence of representatives of various organizations using the port. After the meeting, the meeting was held again in the afternoon in the meeting room of BSF in Petrapole port of India. Representatives of various Benapole and Petrapole land port users' organizations, port authorities, customs and law enforcement agencies were present. The meeting was chaired by Mofizur Rahman, President of Benapole C&F Agents Association.

 Asked about the meeting, Deputy Director of Benapole Port Mamun Kabir Tarafdar said, "It has been decided at the meeting that port users of both the countries will be vigilant to prevent illegal goods from entering between Benapole and Petrapol ports." Besides, the case filed at Benapole Port Police Station will be resolved through legal process, on the condition that the import-export activities between the two countries will start from Monday morning.
